Inspirational stories from our people
I have been with Hawk for over 3 months now and I am really enjoying my time with the company. The reason I joined Hawk was to be part of an outstanding provider and to develop myself in role. The induction process was informative and very thorough, I was assigned a coach who really helped me understand the role and the processes and still supports me now. They really make sure you understand the role and expectations before you go it alone which is so important when taking on a new role. The tutor role is very rewarding for me as you really get to see the apprentices grow within their roles and really make an impact in their workplace. As for my team, I couldn’t be happier they have all been really welcoming and supportive and have found it easy to fit in which can be challenging in a new company.
My career started at Hawk in July 2019 as an Early Years Care Tutor. Previous to this I had worked in a similar role for a different training provider. What attracted me to Hawk was their success in being an Ofsted outstanding provider and their Investors in People Gold Award, how these achievements were awarded is shown daily in the values they show.
Hawk have encouraged me to develop my skills as a tutor and learn new ways to support learners effectively. The thorough induction and on boarding programme really helped me learn about Hawk’s processes and what was expected. This support now continues through monthly meetings and training from different departments to help us carry out our role.
My role as a tutor is so varied, every day I am at a different nursery setting meeting learners who are keen to progress through their apprenticeship. The job satisfaction is so rewarding, being able to help others achieve their career goals and celebrating their success.
I began working for Hawk Training in May 2018 and I am part of the childcare tutor team. I work with apprentices in nurseries who are working towards either a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in childcare. My role entails supporting apprentices by teaching them about various aspects of the early years industry and their roles and responsibilities within this sector. I also support apprentices in developing their Maths, English and ICT skills in preparation for completing their Functional Skills qualification, where necessary.
I have a number of years’ experience in the early years sector, working as a practitioner, a curriculum manager, and a deputy manager. Within these roles, I had some experience of support others as they completed their qualifications, but I wanted to do this on a full-time basis. I joined Hawk as an unqualified tutor and was supported in developing my skills and passion to teach others. In the past 6 months, I have been able to build on my qualifications, and Hawk have taken into account my desires and interests to support me in achieving my career goals. I have been able to gain Functional Skills Qualifications, and my Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievements. Completing this training alongside working enabled me to embed the skills and knowledge I was learning into my practice, and also enabled me to see things from the point of view of the individuals I was teaching.
Hawk Training have empowered me to improve my skills and engage in new and challenging roles within the company. Everyday is different, and brings different challenges, but it is amazing to see how happy an apprentice is when they achieve their qualification. As a tutor, you also feel proud because you have been able to make a difference in that individual's life, and have supported them in taking the next steps in their career.
I began working at Hawk Training March 2019, I specialise in delivering Leadership and Management apprenticeships to individuals and cohorts. I deliver training at one of the UK’s biggest businesses that employ more than 1.5 million personnel, specifically teaching to team leaders (Level 3) and departmental managers (Level 5).
My role is challenging but extremely enjoyable with multitude of different learners all with different abilities and specialisms meaning no 2 visits or days are the same, remaining flexible is key. At Hawk they encourage everyone to develop themselves both personally and professionally, always running training courses for staff both internally and externally at a variety of locations to best suite our needs. Regularly everyone gathers for Team or Staff development days, this is where we as a company share best practices and discuss new ideas or avenues.
I am from a military background and see myself as a focused and highly motivated individual who strives to achieve excellence by having a flexible and adaptable approach. I am a highly regarded and respected team player with first class leadership, management and mentoring skills bringing a positive and creative attitude. This fits into Hawks core values known as EPIC ICE
Before Hawk what I wanted from my next career is to develop and challenge myself, I like to feel pressured but not stressed. I want to develop others using the knowledge, skills and behaviours I have gained and enhanced from my previous career. I always looked to join a company whose missions and values matches my own ideals and goals. Most of all, I like to see the benefit my training brings to people, whether it is work and/or home life improvements from the lessons and visits delivered. A bonus is if the company we deliver the training to benefits financially as this is what drives most companies.
I expect to be at Hawk for some time as I am respected, goal orientated, knowledgeable and being regularly relied upon despite only being at the company a short time. People search for a lifetime for a career they really love and enjoy, I’m extremely lucky and grateful as I’ve had 2 careers I love and have loved in my life.
I cannot wait to see what my future brings. Thank you Hawk!
I have been working for Hawk for over 4 years now as a generic tutor/curriculum lead and honestly can’t see myself working anywhere else. I came from background in retail, with a teaching qualification under my belt which I had never had the opportunity to use. I didn’t see myself in the traditional classroom environment, so when I heard about the job at Hawk it seemed like my idea of a dream job- and I was right! I have had the opportunity to use my teaching experience, but in a professional environment, with the added positive of meeting new people, and knowing that each day will bring something new & different. I get a great deal of satisfaction from seeing my learners achieve, & knowing that I have supported in them gaining their qualification is the most rewarding feeling.
The support I have had throughout my Hawk career has been second to none. My team are always on hand when I need them, as well as the managers who guide & encourage me to achieve on regular basis. Hawk invest in their staff through offering a range of qualifications- I am currently working through a qualification in Internal Quality assurance, which will give me the knowledge & skills to support other tutors with improving their practice. I have also had the opportunity to be a coach for new tutors, which is something I feel passionate about. Hawk always nurture & support your career aspirations, and support you in progressing within the business.
I was first attracted to Hawk Training by the truly professional nature and structure they have in place. From the first contact with Hannah in HR to my interview with one of the Directors, Vanessa and Emma from HR I was inspired to join Hawk. I was determined to join an organisation who support their people and empower them to grow. Hawk have won many awards but one that really stood out for me was the Investors in People Gold Award. I see myself as an ambitious and competitive person and Hawk have allowed me to embrace this and support me with my development.
One of my objectives was to become a specialist in Leadership and Management and there were certain developments I required to be able to do this. The induction into Hawk was thorough, detailed and collaborative, setting me up to succeed. I found, and still do, all staff to be very supportive. I also had a longstanding desire to complete the Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management to support my ambitions and Hawk were quick to offer me this opportunity. Indeed, I have since passed and been on two other courses. This has allowed me to develop my skills, empower learners to grow and for me to progress into other areas of the business such as coaching of new employees. Our mission statement rings true “To deliver innovative, impactful and inspiring opportunities, empowering individuals and orgainsiaitons to learn, develop and grow”.
The support I have received from senior staff has also been very impressive. My second objective was to work for a company who empowered their staff and allowed them to grow. Hawk certainly do this and the regular contact with senior management allow for ideas and best practice to be shared. I have had exposure at various levels of the business and to the wider industry and I really feel supported in my development needs.
My opinion of Hawk has only been strengthened and we remain professional and passionate in all we do, making this a fantastic company to work for. I truly believed I had joined the right company a year ago when I started, and my belief has been ratified. I have had a fantastic first year with Hawk and I look forward to many more.
I have worked for Hawk Training since March 2015 and I am one of an amazing group of childcare tutors who every day support and guide apprentices in Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships. My background is childcare based and I have worked mainly for large-scale nurseries as a room leader and practitioner. One of the things I enjoyed most when I started at Hawk was seeing the different types of nurseries available and how practice is adapted, improved and changed through some remarkable apprentices. I went down the route of college and university to gain a degree in education and seeing the apprenticeship route was something I wish I had been aware of a long time ago. I am truly honoured to work with apprentices and help shape a new way of working and learning. Some of my previous apprentices have worked their way up the career ladder themselves to leaders and managers, while some have gone on to work in other forms of education. I truly cannot express how proud I am of every single one of them and the feeling you get when a learner completes still fills me with pride, excitement and motivation to support the next apprentice.
When starting Hawk Training, I was very new to the idea of work-based learning and Hawk really opened my eyes to the possibilities of this. Hawk have the Gold Standard Investors in People and truly live up to this- through them I have gained a range of qualifications including my Certificate in Education and Training Level 3 and Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance. They believe in you and want you to progress and develop, so they put all they have into supporting progression, development and CPD. Hawk use their passion for learning to innovate new ideas of working just to make sure they are always ahead of the game. I feel proud to be a part of that and look forward to the future with a career I care and feel passionate about.
I joined Hawk as a tutor just over 2 years ago and have progressed into an Internal Quality Assuer role, which I really enjoy. The recruitment and induction process at Hawk really helped me to gain an understanding of the organisation and allowed me to meet everyone who works within the office. Everyone in the organisation is very friendly and approachable and we all work closely together to achieve goals. I enjoy my role as it is very varied and every day is different. I really enjoy working closely with my learners and their employers and it is very rewarding when I see my learners achieve their qualifications and see them progress within their careers. Hawk are also keen to progress their staff and I have also worked towards acheiving my Internal Quality Assurance qualification, which has helped me progress within my career at the organisation as hoped.
I have been a tutor for Hawk Training since January 2015 delivering Business Administration Level 2 and Level 3, Management Level 3, Team Leading Level 2, Warehousing and Storage Level 2 and Level 3 and IT User Skills (ITQ) Level 2 and Level 3.
I come from a manufacturing background, which developed into teaching and learning, and whilst at Hawk Training, I have been able to continue my professional development and gain greater experience in the Teaching Sector.
I have been given opportunities to achieve my L4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices, enhance my Continued Professional Development and share best practices with my colleagues.
My role is diverse, including teaching cohorts of learners, delivering workshops and giving one-to-one support to individuals. I enjoy a variety of teaching, including supporting with ALN/ASN and functional skills. This gives me a real sense of pleasure from seeing learners succeed and achieve their own goals.
I would whole heartedly recommend Hawk Training Limited as an employer. I have had the opportunities and support to develop myself, grow with the business and I feel I have also been given the opportunity to make suggestions, which are listened to.
I started to work at Hawk Training in October 2014 and I am a member of the Additional Learner Support Team. I provide support to learners with specific individual learning needs and work with other tutors to build skills with their learners, in addition to their teaching and learning sessions. I also offer support, guidance and mentoring to tutors to develop their own individual practice.
My background is childcare based, working as a Nursery Manager/Quality Manager in my previous role and I joined Hawk as an unqualified childcare tutor. I had some knowledge of the role of a tutor, having worked with Hawk in an employer capacity, along with already having a passion for sharing knowledge and developing skills with others, so this supported the change in my career.
Hawk Training have supported my own continuous professional development immensely in the past 4 years and I have had opportunities to develop my own functional skills and gain a wide variety of qualifications, including my Certificate in Education and Training Level 3 and Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance, Level 3 Award in Coaching and Mentoring and most recently my Level 3 and Level 4 in Special Educational Needs.
Through training and developing my own skills set in different areas, I have been provided with opportunities to experience different roles within the organisation, leading me to my current role within the specialist team.
Embedding our values at Hawk to empower people to be passionate about learning is important to me. It's truly an amazing feeling when you empower a learner or tutor to develop a love for a subject or concept they may have had negative experience with in the past or have struggled to understand.
It's truly and amazing feeling you get when they have that ‘light bulb moment’ and understand something for the first time- you see them gain confidence in their own abilities and teaching practice. It's amazing to see them strive for excellence or pass exams they have worked so hard for. It fills me with pride and honour to know I made a ‘difference’ for that person that can impact on their future and career.
I enjoy the challenges and the range of people and organisations that I get to work with, every day is different and brings something new. This coupled with the fact that I’m still learning and developing my own skills set, motivates me to continue to excel in my role.
I started off as an apprentice at Front of House 10 years ago. Since then, I have progressed within the company and now I am currently PA to the Managing Director. This is an exciting role as I get to meet employers from prestigious public sectors and small local businesses.
A typical day at Hawk Training is never the same; the sector we work in is very fast paced with lots of changes, which means we are always adapting and learning. Recently, I supported a colleague prepare an exciting event at No.10 Downing Street for National Apprenticeship Week. This was an amazing event where we offered our apprentices a chance to have a private tour of No.10 and celebrate National Apprenticeship Week with us.
What I like most about working for Hawk Training, is working with people that are passionate about making a difference. The work we do is so rewarding, and my colleagues are so much fun, this makes a day in the office much more enjoyable.
Hawk Training is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ organisation and hold the Investors in People Gold, I am proud to work for an organisation that takes such pride in the work they do and the investment they make in their employees.
I joined Hawk Training in March 2010 as a qualified Tutor, with the occupational competence to deliver, Business Administration, Customer Service, Team Leading and Management qualifications. I gained my qualifications in 1996 when I whilst being employed by the Metropolitan Police Service and since joining Hawk Training, I have gained several other qualifications and attended sector related training. I then gained promotion into a Management position, supporting the Tutors who delivered both childcare and generic qualifications.
I am motivated by providing support to others and due to these natural qualities, this has helped me to steer my role as the Learner Support Lead, which covers safeguarding, Prevent, British Values and Equality. This role has allowed me to share best practice and has provided me with the opportunity to provide collaborative support to Learners,Tutors, Employers, 3rd party experts and Parents, assisting them with ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all Learners is maintained.
As part of my role, I engage with schools and 3rd parties to raise awareness of apprenticeships and give a ‘real’ insight into considering an apprenticeship as a career not just an option. No matter what activities I am involved in, I use my work and personal experiences to support others and always give people words of wisdom.
Two of our core values at Hawk Training are caring and empower and I know that my role allows me to do just that, not just for the apprentices but for my colleagues too.
I joined Hawk Training as a Childcare Tutor and since joining I am loving the role and the opportunities that Hawk Training has given me personally and professionally. Throughout my time as a tutor there has always been support and guidance available and I have been lucky enough to gain 7 qualifications developing my skills in this sector and allowing me to progress. Working for an outstanding training provider is so rewarding and every day I am still learning.
The role of a tutor carries many skills and I love the fact that every hour/day is different. I love how varied the job role is and the wonderful people I work with. I am passionate about my job and work with a great team of people - someone is always on hand to help and share their knowledge and experiences.
I find being a tutor rewarding and I love it when learners achieve something for the first time. You realise that you have made an impact to an individual in helping them to gain their qualification and impact their future; a feeling that stays with you for a long time. Being a coach and mentor for the company allows me to share my experiences, guidance and offer support to new tutors joining the team, whilst helping them develop their skills and settle into a new job. The coaching and mentoring is one of the qualifications I have gained since joining the company and every day I have the opportunity to put these skills into practice.
Since starting with Hawk Training over 3 years ago, I have been able to use my passion and knowledge in early years to support learners in the sector to develop their own practice. It has been extremely rewarding taking learners through their qualifications and helping them progress on to further job roles and more advanced apprenticeships!
As a Tutor, I get to enjoy visiting a variety of settings and teach different learners each day. No two days are the same and this brings new challenges and fresh ideas to my job role. Having the responsibility of managing my own diary ensures that I can use my time effectively and to meet the needs to my learners, which includes marking assignments, administration tasks and liaising with employers.
The induction process at Hawk head office was great at settling me into a new role as an unqualified tutor as I was given time to learn about Hawks policies, procedures and values before spending time with my experienced, qualified mentor. This enabled me to feel confident when I first went out on my own, as I had the tools with which to carry out my role effectively. Alongside this, Hawk have encouraged and supported me in training for my own personal development as well as to support my role as a tutor. In just a short amount of time after starting with Hawk I was able to fully qualify as a Tutor, which was a fantastic experience. Since then, Hawk have supported my passion for learning and I have gone on to complete further teaching qualifications. With my team manager’s support I already have development plans for the future to enhance my teaching for the learners. By investing in our personal learning and development Hawk shows that they really do value every one of their staff members and care about their future.
We celebrate our people through a mixture of seasonal parties, competition away days and Hawk Hero awards. Whether you are office based or field based, we celebrate birthdays, successes, marriages and new babies.
